23-06-2009

Dear Mr. Marc De Block

I am writing to you today as president of WAKO Belgium and the primary contact for WAKO.  I hope things are well with you and your family.  I have received a number of e mails over the last number of weeks from Coaches and presidents, enquiring about the new Veterans category at these years Senior World Championships.

Therefore I have agreed to send out a generic response to WAKO presidents to forward on to their respective committees/coaches to update and inform them of the facts and agreement.

At the WAKO Board meeting in April the following decision was taken and passed unanimously.

Veterans Divisions World Championships for 2009.

It was agreed we run the World Veterans divisions alongside our already scheduled World championships for 2009.

Veterans Divisions will include Light and Semi Contact only. Veterans division are in the age category of  Male: From 40 years to 50 years  Female: From 36 years to 45 years.  Fight Duration: 2 x 2 minute Rounds.

The definition of the years is from the day they are respectively 40 or 36 until the day they are 51 and 46 years.  The weight Classes will be the same as the amateur divisions.

This is a trial year for this category and we are hopeful that it will be a success and continue on in to the future.  It is important for our sport that we have an appropriate level of competition for seniors within the tatami sports, to allow people involvement in our sport at a later stage in life, encouraging participation and excellence with all age groups.  The events relating to Veterans this year are.

 19 – 26 October                                                          25 – 29 November

WAKO World Championships                                     WAKO World Championships

Seniors – Low, K1 Rules, Light Contact.                      Seniors – Semi, Full, Musical, Aero.

Location,  Villach, Austria                                             Location, Nantes, France

I hope all the above is clear and if you require any further clarification of information, do not hesitate contacting me at your earliest convenience.  I would appreciate it if you would post the information above on your web site and within your associations/Organisations.   I look forward to seeing you all this year at the European and World Championships.

 Respectfully Yours,
